These unusual wooden
thimbles are both practical and collectible. My craft fair customers
who love to sew, love to find thimbles of all kinds and sizes, and
these are especially fun!
I turn the outside contour of each
individually,
freehand on my lathe, keeping in mind both form and function.
The inside hollow is drilled. No two are ever identical.
In the final step, I drill dimples into the
top —
sometimes too deeply, and then it's a plant pot for a dollhouse!

For me,
the greatest joy of woodturning happens when the shape emerges from a block of wood,
as if by its own design, capturing the moment
when art meets craft. |
