| If you're like me, sewing presents a challenge, and the need for a good seam ripper!
This one is special.
I turned the handle of this comfortable little tool so the overall size is
about 5" long. Sometimes I curve
the body, giving it an ergonomic grip, and sometimes I carve it slim and trim. Less often I make them
very short and thin (like the commercial ones)
but in my favorite, dyed laminate birch wood.
(The blade is manufactured, hardened steel, and sharp as can
be. Comes
with a protective sheath.) |

holds it all. No kidding! Whether your hair is thick or thin, so long as
you can curl it into a full loop, you can keep it neat with one of my
unique hair pins. |

Sized from about 5" to
7-1/2" so they will be "eye-catching" without catching
the eye, if you know what I mean.
Occasionally I will inlay a
dichroic glass cabochon in the end.
(Fiber artists
like to use my shorter pins to fasten a shawl at the shoulder! Or, ask
me to sharpen the point and it becomes a laying tool.)

I turn these one-of-a-kind
hair pins from my favorite specialized hardwood -- laminations of dyed
birch veneer that finish up smooth as glass, super hard, and are
virtually waterproof. (Wear it in the shower
without worry!) You'll be amazed to hold all your long locks with

Into this amazing item I hand-carved a
double-helix SPIRAL WAVE which (not surprisingly) seems to hold in the
hair even better than smooth-bodied pins! As with my "regular"

My variety
of work in turning hardwood hairpins has grown a branch (forgive the
pun) now focused on decorative (yet functional) Shawl Pins. They perform
just as a large straight pin would do, only they're curvy, and each one
has a slightly different shape!
Born from the interest of my fiber artist friends, and lots of craft
fair customers who often purchase my hairpins for this purpose, I keep
these ornamental catches to a length of 5" or less.
I turned them from the same laminated birch as my hairpins, so you will
be sure of a unique, super smooth, solid pin to hold your hand woven
shawl together.

can’t be without their toothpicks! This little stash will keep them
clean and handy!
The inner hollow is lined with a
nickel-plated tube. Overall it measures about 2-1/2" x 3/4” —

THIMBLE

These unique wooden
thimbles are both practical and collectible. My craft fair customers
who love to sew, love to find thimbles of all kinds and sizes, and
mine are especially fun!
I turn the outside contour of each thimble individually,
free-hand on my JET mini-lathe, keeping both form and function in
mind. The inside hollow is drilled. No two are ever identical.

In my final step, I drill the
dimples into the top. (Sometimes drilling too deeply and then it
becomes a potted-plant container for a dollhouse!)
